I need to find an excellent red wine to serve at a formal tea. Most of the attendees prefer a desert wine, but The menu is a variety of finger sandwiches, and several tables of deserts. I'm not a wine expert and could use anyone's suggestion . thank you

Does it have to be a red? A Moscato is a really good sweet white wine. The ones imported from Italy are great.

they requested red, but I'm going to bring both. Thank you. I need to attend a wine tasting or a wine class ... whew...never realized there were to many varieties to choose from.

New Age is an excellent white wine that is easy to drink even for non-wine drinkers. It's very affordable too.

Since they like sweeter wine that is red they might like a jammy, fruit-forward zinfandel. If you go to a wine store ask for that and say you don't want a peppery one. The hotter the area where the grapes are grown, the more residual sugar so if you go for a california wine, don't do a coastal one, try one from central valley such as Lodi. In my opinion a nice light Pinot Noir would be best at a tea party with lighter sandwiches and such. for whites, Muscato is very good, and Gewürztraminer and Riesling are typically sweet, although not always.

One that i love that is sweet but not over bearing is Gallo Café Zinfandel. Its a really nice red wine and not to sweet i tried Moscato for the first time just thought it was a little to sweet for me.
