Giving baby solids

My daughter is almost 6 months. I read a few blogs on delaying solids. One mother/rn said that baby's digestive system isn't ready until 7 months. Has anyone done this? My baby doesn't seem ready for solids. She can't sit up yet and her appetite hasn't increased much.

I would ask your doctor but go with your gut - if she can't sit up yet and you don't think she is ready for solids, then don't do it yet. No rush! I'm not sure about the 7 month mark. I started my babies a little earlier than that but most of it didn't even go in their mouths, so it doesn't seem necessary.

I've never heard about the 7 month thing - we started my son on solids at 4 months per our pediatrician (he's 7 months now). But if you're not ready or don't think your daughter is, then I'd wait. I always hear "food before one is just for fun" so I don't think it's necessary, especially if she's not sitting up and doesn't seem interested in food, but best advice is to ask your pediatrician :)

I have never heard of waiting until 7 months either. We started solids at 4 months per my sons doctor. I have heard of parents waiting until their little ones were 6 months to start solids. I would talk to your little ones doctor and if you fell she is not ready then wait trust your gut also remember food before 1 is just for fun.

We were told to wait until 6 months to start our baby on solids. Doctor said we could give him the oatmeal mixed with breast milk (or formula) starting around 4 months and baby food at 6. My sister started her kids on baby food around 4 months. It's all personal (and what your doctor says) preference. I know people who did something called baby led feeding (or weaning) where they skip baby food all together and introduce normal foods around 4 or 5 months. If you don't think she's ready then wait, your gut/ mother intuition and your baby will let you know when its time

Both of my daughters started solids at 4 months. I made all of their baby food. I used a food processor did bananas, squash, cooked apples etc froz them in ice cube trays and then sealed in Ziploc freezer bags. Heated up a cube or two depending on how much they would eat. They loved the foods I made versus the store bought. I agree it's all on your gut instinct. My.girls wanted food everytime I ate. I never force feed them.
