my son is 7, we started with him tying up the dogs in the morning and letting the dogs in the evenings. He offers to help with vacumning which i let him do, and cooking that i keep him very limited to.I am wondering at what age and what chores are age appropiate?

Helping out around the house is possible at any age just as long as you put safety first no heavy lifting or using chemicals. My kids are ages 14,11,8 and 2 they all pitch in the 8yr old has the chore of taking out the trash , they all can load the dishwasher alternate washing dishes they do their laundry clean their own rooms and sweep the 2 yr old isnt as helpful but he can clean up his own toys its about getting them into good habits and helping them feel responsible it builds character and maturity

I agree. Kids love helping out. My 3 year old helps me sweep and wash the clothes. She picks up her toys. And she even helps me unload the dishes. I've found that the older my kids get the less they naturally want to help out. The responsibility is a good thing for them. I also don't call them chores. We're a family and family pitches in!

I found this very helpful and I use it with my kids! I don't have my sons do everything on the list but it was very useful when I was trying to come up with age appropriate chores! I hope it helps!!!! http://thehappyhousewife.com/home-management/files/2012/07/age-appropriate-chores-for-kids.pdf

My son does a lot I wouldn't call them chores per-say but he loves to help. He takes the dogs out back to use the bathroom and watches them, Rinses his dishes out and puts them in the dishwasher, He vaccuums, cleans his room, picks up his and his brothers toys when they are messy, he feeds the cat and helps with other little things here and there.

My 12 year old daughter has chores, but she tries to get away with not doing them. I feel any age is good if they child shows they want to do it & even if they don't (like mine), there's no reason why they don't have chores

My daughter is 2 and I already have her help me with chores. Her jobs are feed the dog, pick up her toys, make her bed, and take her plate to the sink. I have to initiate and help her with her chores but it teaches her responsibility at a young age. The older she gets the more responsibilities she will have and the less help she will have. When she is seven I will definitely expect her to help out around the house. Dishes, sweeping, vacuuming, making beds, cleaning rooms, cleaning toilets etc. are things that are age appropriate for a seven year old in my opinion.

I believe that as soon as they start walking we can teach them how to clean/pick up after themselves. Make it a game! I remember when my daughter was young (she is now 14) she will empty her toy box plenty of times during the day, so I decided that she could play all she wanted but that she will have to help pick up. We made it a game, but from that point forward is important to teach our children so when they get older it does not come as a surprise that they have to do chores.

My 11yr old cleans the whole kitchen by himself and my 8yr old cleans the whole living by himself.

My 9 year is completely capable of doing the dishes, sweeping, moping, cleaning up her room.. Vacuuming etc!! Chores are important as they need to make healthy habits now to pick up and clean up after themselves!! My 3 year picks up her room and helps wipe doe things too!
