I must be jeginning peri- menopause.. i am really drenched at night. in the last couple of weeks. I have heard that there are some natural supllements that I can add to my diet ... any success anyone? Not debiliating but uncomfortable for sure... really don't want it to escalate...

My doctor suggested black cohosh, but I'm not sure I really noticed a difference. I went through menopause in 2004, and still have hot flashes and night sweats. I definitely keep water next to the bed so I can have a drink when the night sweats wake me .

omg , still 6 years later? Oh boy .... anyway I had a friend tell me that flax seed helps.. I have been making a breakfast each a.m. consisting of egg whites, 1 turkey sausage and about 3 tbs of flax seed meal (ground flax seed) and about 1/4 cup of H20 all mixed together in a bowl and micor-waved for about 2 mins.... it seems to help! I will get the black cohosh and give that a try... if it did not wake me up, I would be okay with the sweats but they were really ruining my nights sleep! thanks for the tip

I skipped the peri and went right to Post and I don't know how. I get night sweats and I have just started hormone replacement and still have them I am. Concerned on how long everything lasts. I don't want to be on hormones for years.

I've been dealing with hot flashes and night sweats for more than 2 years now. Sometimes they are almost more than I can take. I can't take HRT because my mother had breast cancer. My Dr. wants me to take Pristiq, an anti-depressant, as an alternative. Does anybody have experience with this for menopause symptoms?

Just make sure that it's not just a "hot flash"! My dr. ignored a number of other symptoms and my request to take a glucose tolerance test. After three years of treating my supposed hot flash symptoms, he finally diagnosed my type 2 diabetes. Thankfully, the day he gave me those tests results, he also announced that he had decided to retire. Yes, night sweats especially can be produced by uncontrolled glucose as well as a burning sensation in your feet.

I had breast cancer 10 years ago so they would like me not to take HRT but after years of this I am seriously thinking about it. It is interesting Cville what you said about diabetes because I get hot flashes also when I eat certain things. In response to snousje, I do take an anti-depressant but I couldn't take that Pristiq, it made me really depressed just after 3 days and my doctor put me on something else.

I started perimenopause at 34, had a hysterctomy at 40 and just quit going through the hotflash-night sweats about a year ago. I am 53. It was horrible. The only thing that I ever found that helped at all was Estroven. It is so nice to finally be past that phase of my life -- I didn't think it would ever end. I had just decided I would probably suffer with it the rest of my life and then one day I just started noticing that it had been weeks since I had broken into a sudden flood of sweat running down my body. My husband is enjoying the end of the thermostat wars and he has finally been able to put his blanket away! I tried them all: diet changes, supplements, hormones. Some of us just have to go through it until Mother Nature lets us off the hook. Estroven did make it easier somewhat.

Here is a trick for ya....all natural too! Calcium....get 600 mg w/vitamind, that is all your body can absorb at one time, and take it three times a day. It won't take long to notice a difference. Now, if you get to the point where you switch to having "cold" flashes then you are getting too much calcium and you need to back off to two a day. Just kind of play with the dosage like that and see what works...maybe you can get away with doing two and then one. I did it years ago when I was having issues with nightsweats and it worked wonderful. Thought that had something to do with menopause, but here I am some 14 years later having terrible hot flashes. So, I am off to buy some calcium and try this again!! Good luck!!

I have hot flashes, night sweats, and bad mood swings, I get very hateful. I found that Zoloft helps with the mood swings. The Black Cohosh helps some. I find hot flashes and sweats are worse in the Summer. My doctor told me if I could avoid hormone treatments, I'd be better off.....so I am taking Zoloft for the mood swings and just dealing with the hot flashes and night sweats.. I am also reading up on natural remedies and homepathic medicine. There is one in our area, but it is expensive and health insurance does NOT cover it. I do go to an Upper Cervical Chiropractor and it has helped a lot, I hope to soon be off the zoloft I also read where avoiding caffeine helps, but I need my morning coffee!! There is also a hormone cream that is mixed based on your blood/body chemistry, but it's expensive & not covered by insurance. I bet if men suffered hot flashes and night sweats, something would be found and be affordable and/or covered by insurance, just look at Viagra!
