Spotlight on SheSpeaks Blogger - Yolanda Machado of Sassy Mama in L.A.

The first year of motherhood came with many changes for Yolanda Machado. Feeling out of control after separating from her husband, being the first of her friends to become a mother and relocating back to Los Angeles after almost a decade in Philadelphia left her feeling very lost. On a whim, she started blogging and Sassy Mama in L.A. was born. Now, several years later, with a life fairly in control (well, most times), her blog has been called one of Latina Magazine's Top Bloggers To Watch In 2014 and she has written for outlets such as Huffington Post, Babble, and LatinaMom.Me. When she is not blogging, she's at home with her husband, daughter, three cats and loving every minute of it. We caught up with her to find out more about her life and here is what we learned, in her own words.

I live in…. The amazing City of Angels (Los Angeles).

My niche is… Latina Family Lifestyle.

I write when….. I work. I keep my writing/working hours to 9-4pm so that I can be present for my family when they get home.

How has blogging changed my life? It changed EVERYTHING. I was in the legal field and stuck in a non advancement area with little time for my family. Now, I created my own business, my own life and it's full of wonderful opportunities for me and my family.

A brand I have loved working with: Best Buy and Lowe's. I have been an Ambassador for both for 2-3 years, and they truly value the relationships and I feel appreciated.

I started blogging in...2010, on a whim thinking "who would read me?" Ha!

How do I see the future of blogging/social media? I see it moving two ways: Videos/Visuals and Microblogging. The evolution of Twitter and Instagram has been fascinating and I have found a whole new set of followers on each.

Where I work: My dining room turned office or my favorite local coffee shop.

I am connected…. 9am-4pm :). You may see me catching up on Facebook after my daughter is in bed, but I rarely stay on. I travel a lot, so that is my agreement with my husband. When I'm home with them, I am theirs.

When I’m stressed... I blast some Celia Cruz or Marc Anthony and sing/dance my stress out.

My favorite gadget is…. My Samsung Galaxy Camera. I do not leave home without it.

My favorite travel destination is…. Yet to be seen. My family and I really want to do a tour of our ancestry starting with Peru and Ireland!

My favorite clothing brand is… Lane Bryant and Eliza Parker.

I do all my shopping…. Online, naturally.

My favorite TV shows: Parenthood, The Voice, Shameless and Pretty Little Liars.

My favorite movie: Sleepless in Seattle and Say Anything, I'm a secret sap.

Coffee or tea: Coffee, like... bring me a caffeine IV STAT.

I love…. My family, my handbags and my cats.

I dream about…. Writing my fiction novel and turning it into a movie.
