Adam Carolla Insists Women Just Aren't As Funny As Men

As more and more women are successfully breaking into the male dominated world of comedy, there are still some comics who seem determined to keep it a man’s profession. We recently posted about late night host David Letterman’s former comedy booker’s admission that he rarely books female comics because he simply doesn’t think women can be as funny as men.

We can now add comedian and radio show host Adam Carolla to the list of men who don’t think women can be as talented as men when it comes to comedy. While plugging his new book “Not Taco Bell Material” in a recent New York Post interview Carolla spoke candidly about his take on women in comedy. In response to a question of if he hates working with women he replies, “No. But they make you hire a certain number of chicks, and they’re always the least funny on the writing staff. The reason why you know more funny dudes than funny chicks is that dudes are funnier than chicks. If my daughter has a mediocre sense of humor, I’m just gonna tell her, ‘Be a staff writer for a sitcom. Because they’ll have to hire you, they can’t really fire you, and you don’t have to produce that much. It’ll be awesome.’”

When pressed about it further Carolla digs himself deeper into controversy going on to say that he doesn’t care how the public views his ideas and that he is simply stating the truth. Carolla says, “I don’t care. When you’re picking a basketball team, you’ll take the brother over the guy with the yarmulke. Why? Because you’re playing the odds. When it comes to comedy, of course there’s Sarah Silverman, Tina Fey, Kathy Griffin — super-funny chicks. But if you’re playing the odds? No.”

What do you think of Adam Carolla’s recent comments about how women are not as funny as men in comedy?
